Why deploy an AI agent on X1
An AI agent that acts on chain needs four things: a key it controls, cheap and fast transactions, programs worth calling, and a way to find them. X1 is a layer 1 built on the Solana Virtual Machine, so the first two come almost free. Every Solana SDK, CLI and wallet works, and the native token XNT has 9 decimals, the same as SOL.
- Low fees. The X1 base fee is 1,500 lamports per signature against 5,000 on Solana. A million simple agent transactions cost 1.5 XNT in base fees, about $0.36 at today's XNT price. For agents that transact in tight loops, that is the line between a working strategy and a losing one.
- Solana tooling. @solana/web3.js, solders, Anchor and the Solana CLI all work against X1 once you change the RPC URL. Existing agent code ports in minutes.
- Agent-native programs. X1 mainnet already hosts programs written for agents: identity, session keys with spend limits, bounty markets, payment channels, shared signals and on-chain randomness. They are listed below with their addresses.
- A map of the chain. Most X1 programs publish no IDL. X1 Agents Radio reads every program's bytecode and serves a catalog an agent can query, so it does not land on X1 blind.
For how X1 compares with Base, Solana and Sui as a home for agents, read Best Chain for AI Agents.
How to deploy an AI agent on X1, step by step
These seven steps take an agent from nothing to a funded key, a confirmed transaction and a live feed of new programs. Plan on about 15 minutes.
Install a Solana-compatible CLI
X1 runs the Solana Virtual Machine, so the standard Anza Solana CLI works for keygen, balances, transfers and program deploys. Build Tachyon, X1's own Agave fork, only if you want to run a node.
# Quick start: the Anza prebuilt CLI works on X1 sh -c "$(curl -sSfL https://release.anza.xyz/stable/install)" # Optional: X1's own client (needed only to run a node or RPC) git clone https://github.com/x1-labs/tachyon.git cd tachyon && git checkout v3.0 && cargo build --releaseGenerate the agent's keypair
The keypair is the agent's identity and its wallet. Create a fresh one for every agent. Never reuse a personal wallet, and keep the file out of git and out of the model's context.
solana-keygen new -o agent.json --no-bip39-passphrase echo "agent.json" >> .gitignore # Or in code # JS: const kp = Keypair.generate(); // @solana/web3.js # Python: from solders.keypair import Keypair; kp = Keypair()Point your tools at X1 mainnet
Set the RPC URL to X1 mainnet. Any Solana SDK (web3.js, solders, Anchor) works unchanged once it talks to this endpoint.
solana config set --url https://rpc.mainnet.x1.xyz --keypair agent.json // JS const conn = new Connection("https://rpc.mainnet.x1.xyz", "confirmed");Fund the agent with XNT
XNT pays for fees and rent. A small amount covers thousands of transactions. Send XNT from your own wallet (see how to buy XNT), or have a registered agent claim 0.01 XNT from the agent faucet.
# From your own wallet: send the agent a little XNT solana transfer <AGENT_PUBKEY> 0.5 --allow-unfunded-recipient # Agent faucet program (0.01 XNT drip, 100-block cooldown) # 9zkypzFPQ2s3D5UqbYuixt3iXo5ig3ZNWLK1TrbNf5eRCheck the balance and send a first transaction
Read the balance, then sign one small transaction to prove the loop works end to end. A memo transaction costs only the base fee and shows up on the explorer.
import { Connection, Keypair, PublicKey, Transaction, TransactionInstruction, sendAndConfirmTransaction } from "@solana/web3.js"; import fs from "fs"; const conn = new Connection("https://rpc.mainnet.x1.xyz", "confirmed"); const agent = Keypair.fromSecretKey( Uint8Array.from(JSON.parse(fs.readFileSync("agent.json", "utf8")))); console.log("XNT:", (await conn.getBalance(agent.publicKey)) / 1e9); const memo = new TransactionInstruction({ programId: new PublicKey("MemoSq4gqABAXKb96qnH8TysNcWxMyWCqXgDLGmfcHr"), keys: [], data: Buffer.from("hello from my agent"), }); const sig = await sendAndConfirmTransaction(conn, new Transaction().add(memo), [agent]); console.log("https://explorer.mainnet.x1.xyz/tx/" + sig);Load the X1 program map
Most X1 programs publish no IDL and show up nowhere except as a public key. X1 Agents Radio reads each program's bytecode and serves a catalog of every program with its instructions and activity, plus a bootstrap digest of the core programs an agent needs.
# Public, no key needed curl -s https://x1agentsradio.xyz/api/bootstrap # core programs + getting started kit curl -s https://x1agentsradio.xyz/api/catalog # every program, instructions, tx counts curl -s https://x1agentsradio.xyz/api/deployments # what just shipped # The ten busiest programs of all time curl -s https://x1agentsradio.xyz/api/catalog \ | jq -r '.programs | sort_by(-.tx_count_all_time)[:10][] | "\(.program_id) \(.name)"'Subscribe for new deployments
One free on-chain instruction subscribes the agent. The watcher then pushes the bootstrap digest, every new deploy or upgrade, and a daily digest to its webhook (or to a Telegram chat), and unlocks the signed API.
# Registry: 4Ai4Ps8YsrLfshU9xvkf9pobiVhewELdbXEZA7zaZ8E3 (X1 mainnet) # instruction: subscribe(tier: u8 = 1, webhook: string) // tier 1 is free # accounts: subscription PDA ["subscription", agent], state PDA ["registry_state"], # agent (signer), treasury (from state), system_program # Signed API: sign "x1radio:<path>:<unix-ts>" with the agent key (valid 5 minutes) curl -s "https://x1agentsradio.xyz/api/programs?agent=<PUBKEY>&ts=<UNIX>&sig=<BASE58_SIG>"

X1 Agents Radio: program discovery for agents
X1 Agents Radio is an on-chain registry plus a watcher that indexes X1 for agents. It identifies each program from its own BPF bytecode (crate name, instruction set, error strings and any security.txt), counts its transactions back to the first one, and keeps a verified bootstrap digest of the core programs.
- Public endpoints:
/api/bootstrap,/api/catalog,/api/deploymentsand/api/health, no key needed. - Subscription: one
subscribe(tier, webhook)instruction on registry4Ai4Ps8YsrLfshU9xvkf9pobiVhewELdbXEZA7zaZ8E3. Every plan is free during launch. Webhooks can point at a URL or at a Telegram chat through @x1radio_bot. - Signed API: sign
x1radio:<path>:<unix-ts>with the agent key and passagent, tsandsig. Signatures are valid for five minutes and accepted once. - For developers: if your program is live on X1 and missing from the digest, register it with
register_program. Entries are marked verified after review.
Keeping an AI agent safe on X1
- One key per agent, small balances. Treat the agent key as hot. Fund it in small top-ups from a wallet you control.
- Use on-chain spend limits. Session keys enforce limits in the program, not in the agent's code. Vow Protocol sessions carry daily and lifetime spend caps, a transactions-per-day limit, a program whitelist and an expiry. A compromised agent host cannot spend past them.
- Keep secrets out of the model. Never put a private key, seed phrase or signed payload in a prompt, a log or a tool result the model can read back.
- Verify every address. Copy program IDs and token mints from the catalog or the explorer, never from chat or a web page an agent scraped. Look-alike tokens use the same name with a different mint.
- Simulate first. Run
simulateTransactionbefore sending anything that moves funds, and reject transactions that touch programs outside your allowlist. - Check upgrade authority. An upgradeable program can change under your agent.
solana program show <id>tells you who can upgrade it; immutable programs show none.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I deploy an AI agent on X1 blockchain?
Yes. X1 is a layer 1 that runs the Solana Virtual Machine, so an agent needs only a keypair, a little XNT for fees and the X1 RPC URL. Any Solana SDK works: @solana/web3.js, solders for Python, or Anchor. The steps above take an agent from zero to its first signed transaction.
Do Solana agent frameworks work on X1?
At the SDK level, yes: anything that signs and sends Solana transactions works once you change the RPC URL to https://rpc.mainnet.x1.xyz. Protocol integrations are a different matter. Solana apps like Jupiter or Raydium are not deployed on X1, so swap actions should route through XDEX instead, and any program ID a framework hard-codes has to be checked against the X1 catalog.
How much does it cost to run an AI agent on X1?
The X1 base fee is 1,500 lamports (0.0000015 XNT) per signature, against 5,000 lamports on Solana. A million simple agent transactions therefore cost 1.5 XNT in base fees. Priority fees and rent for new accounts come on top. Inference is usually the bigger bill.
How does an AI agent get XNT for gas?
Send it a small amount from your own wallet (see how to buy XNT), or have a registered agent claim 0.01 XNT from the agent faucet program, which has a 100-block cooldown between claims.
What is X1 Agents Radio?
A program discovery service for agents on X1. It indexes every program on X1 mainnet from its on-chain bytecode, recovers names and instruction sets where no IDL exists, and pushes new deployments to subscribed agents. Subscribing is one free on-chain instruction; the bootstrap, catalog and deployments endpoints are public.
Does X1 support x402 payments for agents?
Partly. Programs on X1 mainnet already handle x402-style token payment channels between agents, such as Bounty Marketplace x402 Tokens. There is no public x402 facilitator for X1 yet. X1 Labs has published a design for passkey wallets with bounded agent budgets (W2), covered in our W2 x402 article.
How do I find program IDs on X1?
Use the X1 Agents Radio catalog (https://x1agentsradio.xyz/api/catalog) for every program with its instructions and activity, or the live tables on this page. Always confirm an address on the X1 explorer before you let an agent sign against it.
Do I need to run my own node for an agent?
No. The public RPC is enough to start. Its rate limit is shared per IP, so agents that poll heavily or index the chain should run a read-only node with Tachyon, X1's validator client.
